
Karen Young (Lyric Soprano) – A native
Huntsvillian, Ms. Young completed her B.A. degree in Vocal Performance
at the University of Alabama in Huntsville with a minor in piano, while
adjunctly completing her private vocal instruction with Dr. Ginger
Beazley at Oakwood College. Ms. Young also holds a degree in Elementary
Education from UAH.
From her first major role as “Suzuki” in Madama
Butterfly with Huntsville Opera Theatre, to her more recent roles as
“Mary Magdalene” in Jesus Christ Superstar with Huntsville
Community Chorus, “Desdemona” in Otello, “Maddalena” in
Rigoletto , and “Mrs. Nolan” in The Medium, with Ars Nova,
Inc., Ms. Young has been active in various community musical
organizations for many years as a singer and a pianist. She has been a
guest soloist with Huntsville Community Chorus and involved in various
capacities with several other HCCA productions such as Oklahoma!,
Music Man, Chorus Line, and West Side Story. She
was the Musical Director for Little Shop of Horrors with Theatre
Huntsville, and Assistant Director for Ars Nova’s production of
Something’s Afoot.
Ms. Young was recently named one out of twenty-five
national finalists in the American Traditions Competition as a part of
the Savannah Music Festival in Savannah, GA.
Ms. Young is currently on the staff at the
University of Alabama in Huntsville and Ars Nova School
of the Arts as a voice instructor. |
