Linda Mixon Award for Excellence

Linda Mixon has been a quiet supporter of Ars Nova, Inc. for several years, giving scholarships for students and funds for the production of operas.

It is important that the members of our organization and community know those sponsors who are making the wheels turn to give opportunities for our youth, as well as the gifted adults who star in our productions.   In a continuing effort to impact the lives of young musicians, Linda has agreed to allow us to establish the "Linda Mixon Award for Excellence".

This Fall an Honors Program was established to acknowledge those students who are preparing for the National Muic Certification Exams administered by The Royal Conservatory of Music in Canada.  Weekly classes are offered to study the material and provide practice tests to assure that the students are adequately prepared to be successful on the exams.  Although these classes are provided from the tuition payments, the cost of the exams is quite high.  To help with motivation, discipline and financial incentive, students who have 100% attendance in the weekly classes (a doctor's excuse will be accepted to excuse an absence) will receive a cash award after the exams as follows:

Passing grade = -30% of the fee
Grade 80 - 89%= -60% of the fee
Grade 90+ = -100% of the exam fee

Ms. Mixon is delighted to provide the funds for this award and it it our hope that this will give excitement and motivation fo rthe young people involved in the Honors Program at Ars Nova School of the Arts.
